OROP One Rank One Pension 2026 — Uniform Pension for All Armed Forces Veterans
One Rank One Pension (OROP), implemented on 7 November 2015 with effect from 1 July 2014, ensures that ALL Armed Forces veterans of the same RANK and same LENGTH of service receive the SAME pension — regardless of when they retired. This corrects a historical injustice where older retirees received much lower pensions than those who retired later (despite equivalent rank and service). The latest OROP revision (OROP-2) was approved on 23 December 2022 with effect from 1 July 2019 — covering 25.13 lakh defence pensioners with arrears of ₹23,638 crore (paid in 4 installments). Future revisions happen every 5 years, with the next OROP-3 revision expected in 2024-25 (already announced). Administered by Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), Ministry of Defence. The scheme covers Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and select paramilitary forces.
AGIF Army Group Insurance Fund 2026 — ₹75 Lakh Cover for Army Personnel
Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF), established in 1976, is the welfare insurance and savings cooperative for Indian Army personnel (officers, JCOs, ORs) — providing life insurance cover up to ₹75 lakh (officers) / ₹60 lakh (JCOs/ORs) at extremely low premium. AGIF operates 4 main schemes: (1) Group Insurance — mandatory life cover; (2) Maturity Benefit — accumulated savings paid on retirement; (3) Housing Loan — interest-free / low-interest home loans up to ₹35 lakh for serving officers; (4) Special Family Pension — for widows of personnel killed in action. AGIF is administered by the Adjutant General's Branch, Indian Army. Similar parallel funds exist for Navy (NGIF) and Air Force (AFGIF). On retirement, personnel receive accumulated savings + insurance bonus. AGIF has paid out ₹50,000+ crore in benefits since inception with ~12+ lakh active members.

Rajya Sainik Board (RSB), under the Department of Sainik Welfare in each state, is the state-level implementation body for welfare of ex-servicemen (ESM), war widows, and their dependents.
