APS schools are recognised among India's best — many feature in top 200 CBSE schools nationally. AWES also operates: (1) Welfare Scholarships for ESM children pursuing higher education (₹5,000-₹25,000/year); (2) College of Engineering (Pune, Hyderabad) for ESM-children; (3) Army Institute of Management (AIM Kolkata), Army Institute of Technology (AIT Pune); (4) Special Scholarships for war widows' children. Established 1983 under the aegis of Adjutant General's Branch. APS schools admit children of Army personnel on PRIORITY 1, ex-servicemen on PRIORITY 2, and civilian children on PRIORITY 3 (subject to vacancy). Around 2.5 lakh students study in APS schools.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive Quality CBSE education at 137 APS schools + ₹5K-₹25K scholarships + IIT/IIM-tier colleges. The scheme was launched in 1983 and is implemented by the Government of India.
