What is ZED Certification?

MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification, also known as Zero Defect Zero Effect, is a flagship Government of India scheme designed to improve quality, productivity, and environmental sustainability of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The scheme certifies MSMEs at three levels — Bronze (entry-level for first-time applicants), Silver (for ISO-certified MSMEs), and Gold (for export-oriented mature MSMEs). After taking the free ZED Pledge, MSMEs can apply online for any certification level. Government provides certification cost subsidies: 80% for Micro Enterprises, 60% for Small Enterprises, and 50% for Medium Enterprises — with additional incentives for Women/SC/ST entrepreneurs and SFURTI members. ZED-certified MSMEs also get 85% enhanced credit guarantee coverage under CGTMSE plus 10% discount on guarantee fee, preference in government tenders (₹1 crore+ procurement), and improved branding as a quality-certified supplier. MSMEs receive a ₹10,000 reward just for signing the ZED Pledge — usable to apply for any certification level.

Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive 80/60/50% subsidy on ZED certification + ₹10,000 pledge reward + enhanced CGTMSE coverage. The scheme was launched in 2016 and is implemented by the Government of India.
