What is Johar Project Jharkhand?
Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth (JOHAR) is a World Bank funded project targeting tribal and poor rural communities in Jharkhand. Key features: Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) receive Rs 50,000 seed capital; intensive agriculture, fisheries, and livestock support; market linkages through Producer Companies; and livelihood diversification. Johar focuses on 17 tribal-dominated districts in Jharkhand. Over 2 lakh families benefited through 17,000+ SHGs. Convergence with PM-KISAN, MGNREGS, and state livestock schemes.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive SHG seed capital ₹50,000 + intensive agriculture/fisheries/livestock training + market linkage + Producer Company formation. The scheme was launched in 2017 and is implemented by the Government of Jharkhand.
