What is Bihar Kanya Vivah Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana is a Bihar government scheme that provides financial assistance of ₹5,000 per daughter to BPL families at the time of daughter's marriage. The scheme aims to reduce child marriage, reduce dowry pressure, and encourage registration of marriages. The assistance is paid via cheque or DBT to the bride's account. Additional ₹2,000 is given if marriage is registered (total ₹7,000 for registered marriage). Eligibility: family income ≤ ₹60,000/year, bride's age 18+ years, groom's age 21+ years. Anti-dowry declaration mandatory. Application through Mukhiya (Gram Panchayat), Block Development Officer (BDO), or online on RTPS/serviceonline.bihar.gov.in. The scheme is different from Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana (which is for education). This is specifically for marriage support of daughters from very poor families.
